Card Challenge #1 and #2

I’ve finally tidied my craft desk of all the Christmas paraphernalia and started making some new cards. The following card is for entering into the Simon Says Stamp blog Monday Challenge which has the theme “Something New.”

I’ve bought but not yet used the ‘Let’s Toast’ stamp & die set from Lawn Fawn – I want to get the interactive die that goes with it but for now it’ll do as it is (since there’s new releases coming out soon – need to save my money for those!)

I decided to make a quick, simple card and just use a couple of the stamps.

First I stamped the two slices of toast and coloured in using Promarkers; I then stamped the ‘butter’ on top using the stamp from the set and Lawn Fawn ink in Butter. I also die-cut the square blocks of butter from some card stamped in the same ink and stuck these on each piece.

I cut a circle from a paper pad I had in my stash to use as a background for the toast.

For the sentiment, I had to do a bit of modification for the sentence I wanted. I stamped the butter and knife either side but decided I didn’t want the sentiment to be as wide as it was so die-cut the knife out and stuck it on top so I could trim the sentiment down.

The card felt a bit plain at this point so I took the tiny heart stamp from the same set and stamped randomly in the background using similar ink colours to those in the circle.

Finally I used foam tape to attach the sentiment and then put some glossy accents on the blocks of butter.

I was quite pleased with the finished card and it didn’t take long to make at all. So much so that I made another card for a different challenge!

I took from this sketch the colours Pink & Gold and the floral element.

I didn’t want a completely white background so used a layering stamp set to create a marbled look. I then stamped three flowers from a Gina K set in Lawn Fawn’s Plastic Flamingo ink which is a lovely bright pink. I wanted to use the circle/wreath from the Gina K set too but wanted this to go underneath the flowers so I cut some masks using full adhesive post-it notes and then stamped the image in another shade of pink.

I added some hearts and dots from the same Gina K stamp set in a different shade of pink and also some leaves in a gold ink.

I added the sentiment which came from a stamp set I got in a magazine a while back (I think it was Simply Cards & Papercraft) and to finish the card, I used some Liquid Pearls in Gold Pearl and just dotted around the card.

This wasn’t too time-consuming either and I think it turned out okay 🙂
