For this card, I started off with one idea but then lost concentration so it ended up something else!
I knew I wanted to do white on black, rather than black on white so cut myself a panel measuring 5 and a half by 4 and a quarter inches.
I picked a leaf stamp out from a stamp set I got free with a magazine a while back and initially I was going to stamp this with Versamark ink and emboss with clear embossing powder; I’d then planned to go over the panel with some white pigment ink to make the embossed leaves stand out. However, as you can see from the picture, I somehow managed to pick out white embossing powder, so…
So before I started stamping, I ripped a piece of ordinary printer paper a couple of times and then wrapped it round the card panel leaving a small gap. I used some anti-static powder on the black card and then stamped the leaf several times in the part that I’d masked off.
I then put my white embossing powder onto the stamped images – this was the point I was like, “oh… this was supposed to be clear…” and just decided to keep going anyway.
I then masked off more of the card with the torn paper and repeated this step, twice more.
I really liked the effect this gave – really bold but simple. I think I’ll make some more like this – not only the original idea I had but maybe try this with different colour embossing powders.
Because some of the white embossing powder had got onto other parts of the panel I decided to use a white gel pen to put in a few dots so it looks like there was supposed to be white there.
I trimmed the panel down so it was 5 and a quarter by 4 inches and taped down onto a white card base measuring 5.5 x 4.25.
Finally I stuck a sentiment on the card (black ink on white).
I didn’t think it needed anything else so didn’t bother with any embellishments or anything. This was a fun card to make and each time you lift up the masks it was good to see the effect.
